Camp sites in Styria (Steiermark), the lovely province around Graz, Austria

Camp sites in Styria are worth journeying to in summer as well as winter! Styria is the traditional authentic Austrian province around the city of Graz, sandwiched between Salzburg, Carinthia and Burgenland, on the border of Slovenia in the south of Austria. Graz is in fact the only town in this region which for the most part is rural, with small quaint farming villages and picturesque towns such as Sankt Gallen or Sankt Johann am Tauern.

It is a popular wintersport area (particularly around the Kreischberg ski area), in the summer you can stay on a camp site by a lake where you can go swimming, sailing and fishing. Everything here is geared to a holiday in the countryside or in peaceful rural surroundings. Many Styrian camp sites offer horse riding or pony riding, cycling, endless walks or simply a chance to enjoy the peace and quiet. Camping in Styria is fun all year round!

Beautiful, unspoilt, country living, without mass tourism.

It's pretty but we didn't fall in love with Austria and it didn't compare to the Saxon/Swiss National Park in Germany, Czech Republic (especially around Cesky Krumlov) that we had just passed through or Triglav National Park in Sloevnia where we have now arrived. I don't know how to describe our feelings but Austria seemed too manicured and commercial and the people seemed a little less relaxed and happy.
