How to choose a pitch?
No matter where you go, a good pitch is essential. Some prefer a basic pitch, while others opt for more space and comfort, such as a larger pitch with private facilities. Knowing your preferences will help you find the perfect camping spot.
Consider the following when choosing a pitch:
- Think about the size of your tent, campervan, or caravan and ensure there’s enough space. You’ll want room to sit comfortably and possibly set up an awning or canopy.
- Decide on the facilities you need. Would you prefer to be close to amenities or further away for peace and privacy? Do you need an electricity hookup, or do you prefer a more off-grid experience?
- Consider the location. Do you want a shady spot, or do you prefer full sun to make the most of warm weather?
- If you’re travelling with children, proximity to play areas or pools might be an important factor.
The right size
The ideal pitch size depends on your camping setup and personal preferences. Here are some guidelines for different types of camping equipment:
- Tent: A pitch of around 80m2 is usually sufficient for a spacious tent with room for an awning or table. If you’re using a small two-person tent, many campsites have designated areas where you can choose your own spot among fellow campers.
- Campervans and caravans: Most are between 6 and 8 metres long and around 2.5 metres wide, so you’ll need at least 80m2 of space. If your vehicle is longer, look for pitches of at least 100m2. This allows for a comfortable setup, including space for an awning or privacy area.
